As a PhD candidate at Leiden University, I currently work on a thesis on the role of trust in the Counter-Reformation. More specifically, I study the role of trust in the development of new and old religious orders within early modern Catholicism, using the Vincentians and other orders and congregations active in Genoa as a case study (1625-1675). By focusing on three levels - the local, the institutional and that of internal relationships and communication - I aim to shed light on an issue that is relevant to our understanding of the Counter-Reformation as a whole, and to a better explanation for its remarkable success. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations, especially with regard to the history of the Vincentians in Italy.
